evaluating my student magazine

• In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The typical front page of any magazine will have a masthead, a main image, an insight to a few of the more interesting stories, an issue date and a price. My front cover has all of these things and a few extra images which some magazines do use. I have presented it much like a normal student magazine with the mast head at the top of the page. It In a white box to highlight it so that your attention is drawn there.
A normal contents page usually has columns and a picture of the front cover to show where the story on the front is shown. My contents page has a picture and it has columns but I made some of the writing overflow into the other columns where there were gaps. I put a few images to make the page more interesting but didn’t use too many.

• How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My product doesn’t represent any particular social group. However it does give the impression that teenagers are only interested in TV and games. This is shown in the contents page. The stories are mostly about media today as teenagers are interested in things like video games. In one of my story titles I’ve used a quote from a TV show. This is so that the reader can relate to the article and will want to read it.

• What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

This magazine was made to be published by Ludlow college as the student magazine for this college. It has stories about people in the college and picture from around college.

• Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience is aimed for students aged around 16-19. It would be suitable for anyone as there are stories that appeal to both men and women.

• How did you attract/address your audience?

In this issue I made the front cover a story about bash. As this is an occasion that most students look forward to and go to, I thought that to target the audience I’d have a story about what happened at the last bash. This would interesting to read and would encourage the students to buy the magazine. The other stories on the front page are helpful stories so that it can still help a student in their everyday college life. The stories inside are more media based to attract the attention of college students.

• What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

During the making of this front cover and contents page I used paint, publisher and a digital camera. I learnt how to use blogspot for the first time and found that I really enjoy it. I have also learnt a lot about magazines and some of the techniques that are used while making them.

content page designs.

analysing content pages.

Smaart Talent magazine.
In this magazine the contents page is refered to as a welcome page. It has the name of the magazine repeated at the top in a slightly larger and bolder font than used on the rest of the page. It also has all the names of the people that helped to make the magazine and what they did. In this magazine, aswell as the other ones i have looked at, is a smaller version of the picture on the front cover. There is a short welcome and there is what will be in the magazine and what pages they're on. This is all written in paragraphs telling the rough story rather than the header for the page. It has more writting than pictures on the page as it only has two small photo's.

First Car.
This contents page has the header 'contents' at the top in white, bold font that stands out from the black background. it has four small pictures with some of the bigger more interesting stories on and the number of the page on the picture. The picture at the bottom is much bigger and although its not the same as the one of the front cover is from the same shoot and is tellng you where the story is that was advertised on the front cover. Down the righ side of the page is the column for the stories inside the magazine and the page numbers. The stories that have been identifyed in the pictures are not in the list. At the bottom it shows the people that created the magazine with the header of 'meet the team'. There are a lot of pictures in this contents page and they take up most of the page.

Hot courses.
This contents page also has the header saying that its a contents page. The page is split into three noticable collumns but two are shaded grey to indicate they're related. The name is repeated inside the magazine but the font is small so that it doesnt draw attention away from the more important stuff. Down the left of the page is a welcome that takes yup most of the column. at the bottom of the page is a picture of the front cover repeated. The other two columns are headed with 'contents# and have four small picture on to show what some of the stories are about and telling you the page number. the other stories hve the headers of the pages and the page number but are much smaller. None of the stories in this magazine are described.
